Designer camp offers an engaging program for rising seventh through twelfth grade students interested in a professional career in design. Hosted in the Pacific Design Center, this week-long day camp offers an immersive experience into the vast careers in the design industry. Each day students will explore the many career opportunities for their future with hands-on instruction & real life experience from design industry professionals.

Hands-on workshops
When designing a project in response to a client's needs, always interview the client and the end users, if possible. Some projects can be handled with surveys, but a camp project presents a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the experience, so I try to arrange an overnight bunk. As an architect, I know the best way to design for the clients is to walk in their shoes. Students will get out of the classroom and visit showrooms, retail stores, design houses and businesses that are shaping the design industry.

Customers are people who like off-roading and touring, to mature "grey nomads" and families who have caravans. The slime is indicative of the camp's many activities and I liked the idea of it being spattered on and kind of dripping down the word "Ooze". The word "CRUISE" is colored to give it a vacation and sea faring feel. The 3D drop shapes behind "CRUISE" and the accompanying outlines throughout are to help push the text out from the background. We are an after school and summer camp for kindergarten to 5th graders. We provide martial arts and other structured activities.

It's much easier for youngsters away from home for the first time to make the transition to camp when they see consistency. Yes, you want to expand and add more programs, but the process needs to be orderly and make economic sense. A facility master plan, in conjunction with a sound business plan, will guide you in making decisions about how to get to that next level. Two cabins erected in the 1940s are making way for a new, 7,000-square-foot bunkhouse/education center. A recent lecture I attended couched architects as uninterested in the genre of camp architecture. Just as any profession has generalists and specialists, architecture is no different. To me, camp architecture is an exciting mix of residential and commercial design. You must address the functional needs of a small city while balancing the experience of each individual camper. It's an architect's job to create a welcoming experience in a cost-effective manner.
